Our TORNADO Base Mat has two main purposes:
1) it functions as a solid foundation for your blender. It guarantees that your machine will not move or 'walk' around on your countertop.
2) in functions as a drying surface for your blending container.
This mat is an optional accessory, it's not required to use your TORNADO.
That being said, we think it's the most useful (and cool looking) accessory that we have created.
If you ever used a high-powered blender before, you have probably experienced that they can move or 'walk' around on your countertop, especially when they are under a heavy load.
The motor base of the TORNADO can be placed on the mat, and will be held in place by 4 half-moon shaped borders that snugly fit around the feet of your machine.
The motor base can be placed on the mat in any orientation - which means that you can have the drying surface of the mat on the left, on the right, in front or behind the blender. So no matter what spot you may have in mind on your countertop, you should be able to place the mat in a good position.
The drying surface allows you try place your washed and rinsed blending container upside down, directly next to the motor base. This allows the container to dry both on the outside, and also on the inside. And soon after, it will be ready to go for the next blend.
The mat is made of food-grade silicone. It's the same material that you may know from pot-holders, or baking molds.
This material is extremely durable against abrasion, and also heat resistant up to 480 degrees. It is also completely odorless.
The mat is black - the writing on the mat is white. (not painted, it's actually white silicone)
The mat is technically dishwasher safe - that being said, please don't put it in the dishwasher. We recommend that you hand-wash the mat. You can simply rinse it off under warm water or use a kitchen dish-brush and some dish-washing liquid to clean tougher stains. Distilled vinegar has proven to be a great way to clean the mat as well.
The mat is 20 inches long, 12 inches wide and 1/4 of an inch thick. The weight is approximately 1.5 pounds.
